Project Summary

The Exiled is a 32-map megawad project for the Doomsday engine, featuring new monsters, new textures, new sound, new music, heavy scripting, many custom models, and a number of other things. The focus of this project is to combine atmosphere and terrifying interactive environments with the classic Doom gameplay we've all come to know and love. This project will take advantage of all of Doomsday's features and any new ones which are implemented as this project is under development.

Development Notes

-With the way its going to be using a lot of XG, it may not beable to work with Co-op. However, when I learn XG better, I may make it so that the levels are capable of Co-op (think multiple players, one triggers a scripted XG event, various things can go wrong in the situation).

-I'm going to be using particles, as well as models (some map-specific). I've been collaborating with Dani J on ideas for various models. Right now most of the ideas are meant for Map02: Temple of the Desecrated, but a lot of them I plan to use throughout other maps as well (for example, a pentagram made up of bones that can spawn traps or teleport you somewhere when you step into the middle of it).

-The Exiled takes place entirely in a hell-like setting. There are two reasons for this decision: One reason is want to make an in-depth story line that involves things taking place in an otherworldly environment, which will be given a full explanation later; The second reason, is that high tech base maps are more bound to reality than hellish or maps in another dimension. High tech bases have been done over and over again, and in Doom especially, it is hard to do something innovative in terms of gameplay or looks.

-I'm planning on at least one or two new monsters for the bosses (more likely bosses than anything). We'll see what happens outside of that.

-I have no idea when this project will be done, and I hate the "When Its Done" cop-out so many developers use who're working on projects, but really, thats the best I can give. I thought that this might be plausible by the end of the summer but with real life matters among other things progress has slowed from when I first announced this project.

-Due to how long it might take for this project to be in a finished state, I am planning sometime in the near future (by this I mean next couple of months) releasing a three-map demo of The Exiled consisting of Map01: "The Desecrated Ruins", Map02: "Temple of the Ruins", and Map03: "The Lower Ruins" as these three maps are all linked together, so to speak, and are meant to give you a feel early on of just how epic this project will be. Right now most of the models I've requested from Dani are for Map02 and Map03. Map01 will have some models, but they will be placed as an afterthought as I originally designed it without models in mind as the idea wasn't presented to me until after the fact (probably models that there are concepts for for Map03 which Dani has, since all the first three maps share a common theme and the models would fit any of the three very well).
